TALK - Sustainable urban food growing: a closed loop approach

  • Factory Quarter Community Hub Unit 3, Tesla Court, Warple Way London, England, W3 7DQ United Kingdom (map)

Learn about urban food growing and closed loop systems.

Are the foods we grow losing their taste? Why are some nutrients levels 30% lower than they were in the 1950's? The food sector is responsible for over a third of global greenhouse gas emissions. We could be using more of London's green spaces and rooftops to grow for local consumption. Less transport chilling and early harvesting = healthier food with higher nutrient levels.

Interested in training or employment in this area or just want to know how we could be doing things better? Come along and find out how we can use biofertiliser and bioenergy recovered from our food waste to grow food for local consumption, eliminate food and waste miles, and create local green jobs.

This event is free.

Guest: Rokiah Yaman from LEAP Micro AD.

Rokiah Yaman co-founded LEAP Micro AD to develop advanced anaerobic digestion technology as part of a decentralised, circular, food-waste-energy model designed to support local employment and training opportunities, manage organic resources sustainably, engage people around zero waste and strengthen community resilience.
