Have you ever wanted to grow your own mushroom before eating it? Well, dream no more. In this fungi-culture workshop, you will learn how to create the right environment to grow Grey Oysters mushroom and leave home with a bucket (literally) full of them.
The aim of the session is for 12 people to learn how to grow oyster mushrooms using low-tech methods. We will demonstrate a low-tech mushroom growing by inoculating various urban waste materials with oyster spawn for workshop members to take home. Through the session you will:
learn theory on what fungi is and how it is vital to our lives and ecosystems.
Learn about a new nutritious food to grow in small indoor/outdoor space. It is Important because it empowers us to be more self sustainable and to reduce local waste system.
Leave the workshop with a bucket of mushrooms to take home to watch grow.

Trainer: Alani Shafiq (they/them) from The Village.
Alani spent 3 years living and working on the eco-schools in Greece as a volunteer resource manager. They are now a freelance community leader and Resource Coordinator at The Village. Alani is a budding amateur mycologist and regenerative activist, who enjoys connecting the body and mind to help build a better future. They have facilitated multiple nonformal workshops around compost, fungi and shibari.
